The beautiful baroque city of Dresden is the backdrop for this tournament which will take place on 20th (men and women) & 21st (U17) June 2008. Dresden located in the southern part of former East Germany approximately between Berlin and Prague and near both the Polish and Czech borders. The tournament will coincide with a huge street party (100 000 people 2008!) called the “Bunte Republik Neustadt” which will be centred around Dresden’s lively Pub and Club district – the “Neustadt”.
15 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams are expected on Saturday 20th June and 15 youth teams (U17) are expected on Sunday. Each of the men’s teams and youth (U17) teams will play a minimum of 4 games in the three groups with a possible two extra games for the semi finals and finals. The women will play in two groups and will play 4-5 games each, including a cup and a plate semi finals and cup and plate finals.

Program of the weekend:

Thursday 26th June
– giant training on a square downtown with TV shooting, help us promote rugby in Finland!
– party at Kaarle XII and Kaivohuone
Friday 27th June
– tournament pools starts at 18:00 at Myllypuro Sports park and goes until midnight, daylight included!
– bus transportation downtown to a bar and drinking contest among the captains to decide
who’s going to play first on the day after!
Saturday 28th June
– Tournament finals start at 12:00. Final game to be played at 17:30
– way back downtown to a restaurant for prize ceremony and closure party!

Some side-features:
– a mobile sauna on the side of the pitch
– a long distance belly sliding contest
– typical finnish food (salmon, herrings, muikku…)

first , I would like to introduce myself . My name is Nathalie Pouzenc , I‘m French , I am in charge of the ladies rugby teams in the north east of France.
